| COURSE DESCRIPTION |
The course provides a qualification to teach in both primary and secondary schools. It combines studies in primary education with specialist studies in physical education, health, welfare and social work. The course consists of 32 units of study in the following categories: Teaching Studies, Curriculum Studies and Discipline Studies. Students also undertake 120 days of professional experience in schools.
First year: Includes core foundation units.
Second, third and fourth years: Studies in education theory and practice, the key primary school curriculum areas as well as specialist studies that will enable graduates to teach from Prep to Year 12 in Physical Education and Health.
Practicum and field experience provide essential school-based and practical experiences in both primary and secondary schools. Students will also complete a sub-major in Welfare Studies that qualifies them to take on welfare positions in schools. |

| ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS |
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 6B certificate at postgraduate (EFS PG2a (75%)) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; or
IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 with no individual band score less than 6.5; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 600 with a score of 6 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 250 with a score of 6 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 96 with no individual score less than 24; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent. |

| Workplace experience for academic credit |
| |
| If the industry experience program is not a registered part of their course a student will need to hold work rights on their visa, this permits the student to work up to 20 hours per week when their course is in session and unlimited hours outside these times. However, if a student has completed their course and their student visa is expiring they will need to apply for another visa with work rights rather than renewing their student visa based on undertaking industry experience. |

| CAREER OPPORTUNITIES |
| This course provides a qualification for employment in primary schools as generalist teachers and in secondary schools as specialist teachers in health and physical education in Australia and overseas. Graduates may also work in the health, fitness and recreation industries, youth and community centres and in government and private agencies. |

| PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION |
| Graduates can register with the Victorian Institute of Teaching for teaching in primary and secondary schools in the specialist areas of physical education and health. |
