 † Combined mode: Local students taking programmes in combined mode can attend full-time (12-18 credit units per semester) or part-time (no more than 11 credit units per semester) study in different semesters without seeking approval from the University. For non-local students, they will be admitted to these programmes for either full-time or part-time studies. Non-local students must maintain the required credit load for their full-time or part-time studies and any changes will require approval from the University. For undergraduate programmes, student visas will be issued for FT study only.

The programme provides well-structured training for IT professionals who want to keep abreast with the dynamics in multimedia and information technology. It aims at equipping students with in-depth knowledge of the state-of-the-art multimedia information technology and the necessary skills to meet the needs from the community. On completion of the programme, students with different technical backgrounds and aspirations can:

  • have a strong theoretical foundation in multimedia systems and applications, mobile computing, Internet computing and networking;
  • acquire analytical ability that enables them to conduct high-level research and development in the rapidly changing IT industry;
  • enhance their capacity to continue professional and career development.

Entry

Applicants must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements and one of the following:

  • possess a BSc or BEng degree in related desciplines such as Information Technology, Information Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics (preferably with a minor in Computer Science) and Applied Physics (preferably with a minor in Computer Science);

 
 OR

  • have obtained an equivalent qualification, or provided evidence of academic and professional attainments acceptable for this purpose to the University.

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL score 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (interet-based test); or
  • Overall band 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • Score 450 in the new College English Test (CET6) of China mainland or a pass in the old CET-6 test; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications.

Course

The programme will focus on the hardware and software technologies essential for the design and implementation of multimedia information systems.

MSMIT with Business Management – New award

Students must complete a total of 36 credit units (CUs) with the following requirements:

  • 6 CUs of EE core courses
  • 15 CUs of technical elective courses where no more than 9 CUs of Group II electives
  • 12 CUs from BM electives
  • Minimum 18 CUs of EE courses (including the core course)

 

MSMIT

Students must complete a total of 30 credit units (CUs) with the following requirements:

  • 6 CUs of EE core courses
  • 21 CUs of elective course where no more than 9 CUs of Group II electives
  • No more than 6 CUs of BM electives
  • Minimum 18 CUs of EE courses (including the core courses)

 

PGD – Intermediate Award

Students must complete a total 24 credit units (CUs) with the requirements:

  • 6 CUs of EE core courses
  • 15 CUs of elective courses where no more than 9 CUs of Group II electives
  • No more than 3 CUS of BM elective
  • Minimum 15 CUs of EE courses (including the core courses)
