The programme prepares students to enter the legal profession as trainee solicitors or as pupil barristers. Students will learn by experience and through instruction to fulfil the professional and social responsibilities they will be expected to fulfil as members of the legal profession. Graduates of the programme will be able to understand and apply the principles of substantive and procedural law fundamental to the delivery of a basic range of legal services, and understand how these relate to the institutions of the legal system. They will have gained experience in simulated transactions and in the skills necessary to carry out the tasks related to delivery of a range of legal services. In addition, graduates will be equipped to take a problem-solving approach to new situations, to understand their professional responsibilities, and to manage their work effectively. Entry Applicants must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements and hold: - a law degree from the University of Hong Kong or the City University of Hong Kong; or
- a law degree of equivalent level from a recognized overseas institution; or
- an equivalent qualification (e.g. the CPE or CPEC), or other academic and professional attainments acceptable to the University.
Applicants must also have completed courses in eleven core subjects, namely Tort, EquityLaw, Land Law, Criminal Law, Business Associations, Evidence, Contract, Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Cirminel Procedure and Commercial Law, or be able to demonstrate equivalence, and (where applicable) three top-up subjects namely Hong Kong Contitutional Law, Hong Kong Land Law and Hong Legal System. Applicants must be proficient in English and they are required to have obtained 7 or better overall band score in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) before they enter the PCLL. The IELTS test results must be obtained not more than two years before the closing date of application (i.e. 30 April 2008). This is a requirement of the Standing Committee on Legal Education and Training in Hong Kong. No exemption will be permitted. Course

Professional Accreditation
