A higher diploma or an associate degree in a science discipline, or an equivalent qualification Course Environmental sciences and management is a modern, exciting, multi-disciplinary field, which includes subject areas as diverse as chemistry, biology, ecology, biochemistry, toxicology, earth sciences, law, sociology, economics and management. Our practically-based courses will expose you to many of these aspects and lead you to an integrated, well rounded degree.
In Year 1, you will concentrate on learning the fundamentals that underpin environmental science –especially those related to biology and chemistry. In Years 2 and 3, your choice of courses enables you to study more detailed areas of environmental science and management. Some of the "required courses" include Environmental Policy and Ethics (where you will learn about ethical theories, globalization and environmental issues and environmental justice); Environmental Law (how we legislate to maintain our environmental quality); Economics of the Environment (how environmental management is intimately linked to economic matters); and Earth Systems (how our planet's biogeochemistry "fits together").
Advanced elective courses are also available, and will build on your fundamental knowledge. These courses include Reliability and Quality Engineering; Environmental Sampling and Risk Assessment; Environmental Pollution; Environmental Microbiology; Environmental Impact Assessment; Environmental Toxicology; Environmental Conservation and Resources Management; and Marine Biology.
In addition, you are also required to gain skills in communication, especially in the communication of scientific knowledge. Professional Accreditation
