  • You will learn about the latest developments in Internet-related applications and computational linguistics.

Careers

This programme provides students with an education in linguistics and linguistic computing. Students will develop an analytical mind and an open attitude towards people from different cultures. They will have a solid foundation in linguistics and will be prepared for careers that require both language and computer skills. This is recognized as an English language degree for the prupose of teaching in Hong Kong.

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements.

Courses

There are two main subject areas: Linguistics and Language Technology.

  • Core Linguistic subjects include: Language in Society, Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax and Semantics.
  • Language Technology core subjects include: Computational Linguistics and Electronic Publishing.
  • At a more advanced level, you may choose subjects like Advanced Topics in Computational Linguistics, Computer-assisted Language Learning and Instrumental Phonetics, Corpus Linguistics, Machine Translation, Pragmatics, Text Linguistics, Text Processing and Information Retrieval.
