The programme aims at providing students with a comprehensive training in psychology, with emphasis on research skills in the study of human behaviour, for further advancement in professional practice in human and social behavioural services. Students will have the opportunity to take minors options, such as applied sociology, applied social research, criminology, and human services offered by this Department, or in areas offered by other departments of the University. Careers Graduates of this programme will be suitable for jobs that are people oriented, such as human resources managers, public relations officers, career counsellors, trainers, youth workers, guidance teachers, police officers, sales managers and so on. They will also be suitable for jobs which require strong research competence, critical analysis, and knowledge of human and social behaviours, such as marketing and promotion officers, research assistants, research consultants etc. Students aspire to practise as professional psychologists will be able to pursue advanced training at Master's or Doctoral levels in Hong Kong or overseas in research or applied psychology (such as health, forensic, clinical, educational, counselling, industrial-occupational psychology). To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements. Course - Common foundation year courses for all students of the Department, and common courses required by the University
- Core Courses (required): Basic Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Learning, Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Research Designs and Statistical Analysis, and the Final-Year Research Project
- Core Electives (take at least 2 courses; for Year 3): Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Introduction to Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology
- Programme Electives: Students will choose an additional five to six elective courses from the Program Electives list, including courses such as Community Psychology, Interpersonal Communication and Counselling Skills Laboratory, Neuropsychology, Psychiatric Aspects of Crime, Psychology of Childhood & Adolescence, Psychology of Interpersonal Relations, Special Topics in Chinese Psychology, Issues in Social Gerontology, Team Building and Group Work Skills Laboratory etc. Electives being offered may differ from year to year.
Professional Accreditation Graduates will normally be eligible to be considered for the Graduate Membership of the Hong Kong Psychological Society or overseas psychological societies upon application. Bonus Features
