| COURSE DESCRIPTION |
This course has been designed to produce future leaders for the tourism and hospitality industries. It covers a broad spectrum of issues across both industries and emphasises the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for effective tourism and hospitality management. It gives students the broadest possible career options by combining a solid business degree - encompassing areas such as accounting, marketing and economics - with specialised tourism and hospitality studies.
This course seeks to blend vocational training with a broad education for the industry's future leaders. The course combines the skills needed for hospitality and tourism supervision with business management and an understanding of the dynamics of the tourism industry.
First year: Eight compulsory units.
Second year: Seven compulsory units and one elective unit.
Third year: Five compulsory units and three elective units. |

Melbourne (Bundoora) campus: Students are required to purchase a basic hospitality uniform. The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management corporate uniforms are available at a cost of approximately A$150.
Bendigo campus: Students are required to purchase a basic hospitality uniform. Uniforms are purchased through BRIT as part of the TAFE course component. |

| ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS |
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; or
IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent. |

| Workplace experience for academic credit |
| |
| If the industry experience program is not a registered part of their course a student will need to hold work rights on their visa, this permits the student to work up to 20 hours per week when their course is in session and unlimited hours outside these times. However, if a student has completed their course and their student visa is expiring they will need to apply for another visa with work rights rather than renewing their student visa based on undertaking industry experience. |

| Graduates choosing to work in tourism may find employment in a wide range of areas including the airline industry, coach companies, cruise liners, holiday resorts, tourist attractions, ecotourism, event and conference management, international sporting events and festivals, government tourism organisations, and wholesale and retail tourism. Graduates may work as managers of hotels, motels, resorts, restaurants, clubs, large catering facilities and convention centres. |
