Our major is the only statistics programme in Hong Kong which gives a more complete training in business knowledge and industrial exprience. The programme is unique in three ways. First, it provides application-oriented professional training in business statistics, business intelligence and information technology. Second, it provides students with the business knowledge they need to apply statistical methods and quantitative tools to the business fields. Third, it maintains close contact and collaboration with industry and uses real cases and projects to develop students' competence to solve real world problems after graduation.

Careers

We will give you professional training in business statistics, business intelligence and information technology. Our graduates are working as government statisticians, credit and risk analysts, credit MIS analysts, market research executives,  statistical analysts, business analysts, martet analysts, quantitative analysts, operations research managers, planners and consultants.

Entry

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements and the following specific entrance requirements:

• D in HKCEE Additional Mathematics or Mathematics
  or
  E in AS Level Applied Mathematics, or Further Mathematics, or Mathematics and Statistics, or Mathematics with Applications, or Pure Mathematics, or Statistics
  or
  E in AL Applied Mathematics, or Further Mathematics, or Pure Mathematics

Effective communication is particularly important to managerial statisticians in the business world. We will enhance students' communication skills, specifically Chinese and English proficiency and interpersonal skills, through workshops, group discussions and project presentations.

Professional Accreditation

After graduation, you may seek accreditation from professional statistical societies: Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS), Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and Statistical Society of Australia Incorporated (SSAI). Initially, students obtaining a good university degree with a substantial content of statistics may apply as a graduate statistician. After having sufficient statistical consulting experience, you may apply for the full professional qualification of Certified Statistician (HKSS) or Chartered Statistician (RSS) or Accredited Statistician (SSAI).

Our degree allows you to have appropriate exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
