COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course helps students build the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in a wide range of areas within the private and public sector. The course adopts a problem-focused approach that helps students develop the important problem-solving and decision-making skills relevant to any business.

The units that comprise the first year core and majors may vary slightly across campuses. These minor variations reflect differences in specialised interests and expertise and the particular needs of students at different locations.

The structure of the 24-unit degree program enables students to complete a core of seven first-year foundation units providing fundamental business skills and knowledge in the areas of:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Management
- Information systems
- Commercial law
- Business statistics


At least one major must be in a business discipline. Outside majors may include a language specialisation or other pre-approved sequences.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; or

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or

TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or

Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or

Approved equivalent.

There are career opportunities in the government and private sectors, both domestically and internationally. Areas of potential employment include small business management, marketing, management, human resource management and international business.
 
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Students completing with a Human Resource Management major: Admission to the Australian Human Resource Institute (subject to relevant work experience).

Students completing with a Marketing major: Eligible to join the Australian Marketing Institute or the Marketing Research society as associate members.
