Why choose this program?

The business world offers exciting and rewarding careers for young people with initiative, talent and drive. Career choices are wide and varied - from dealing with industrial relations issues, managing employees or the supply of goods and services - to helping devise and manage marketing campaigns. In whatever part of the business world you can see yourself playing a role, the Griffith Business School has a degree that will best meet your needs and those of prospective employers.

The following degree options are available at the Gold Coast campus:

  • Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management)
  • Bachelor of Business (Industrial Relations)
  • Bachelor of Business (Management)
  • Bachelor of Business (Marketing)

Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management)

If you are interested in working closely with people - helping them in their own careers - this degree is the one for you. It will equip you with the professional expertise and understanding needed to take part in selection and recruitment procedures, training and development and performance management of staff. You will develop a vital appreciation of the complex inter-relationships involved in business, industry and service organisations that will help you succeed in your own career. A strong emphasis is placed on developing your analytical, communication and decision-making skills, making you more attractive to future employers.

Bachelor of Business (Industrial Relations)

If you are interested in the role of trade unions, how management liaise with their workforce or helping people to succeed in their own careers, then a degree in industrial relations is for you. You will gain an appreciation of labour market issues and laws, negotiations including collective and individual bargaining, wage and payment systems and the complex interrelationships between employers, employees and unions. In the current environment of workplace reform, experts in industrial relations are more sought after than ever before.

Bachelor of Business (Management)

Management is not simply about managing people or making sure an office runs smoothly. A very important part of being a good manager is to be able to be a good team player. If you enjoy a challenge, like to work hard to achieve top results and work well with people, then this course will help you on the road to your career in management. This degree will educate you in how the core functions of management - communication, planning, teamwork, strategy, human resources and self-development - all work together. It will develop your analytical, communication and decision-making skills which are necessary in today’s modern business world.

Bachelor of Business (Marketing)

Marketing continues to be one of the 'glamour' professions and shows no sign of losing this status. Marketing offers variety like few other professions. You can work in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), tourism, the entertainment industry, public relations or advertising: in fact, any area that needs to promote itself or its products. Marketing is often fast paced and exciting and always challenging. That is why - for the right person - the sky is the limit in terms of salary. You will need to be a quick thinker, creative, analytical and a good communicator - skills which this degree will help you develop further.

Program structure

In Year 1, you will complete the core business courses. In Years 2 and 3, you will complete the courses for the chosen award major (see above) and supplement your studies with a choice from the following:

  • an overseas internship or exchange
  • an industry placement (work-integrated learning)
  • an additional area of specialised study offered by the Business school
  • specialisations offered from other areas of the University

Some business majors are available as an accelerated degree (at Logan) which means that by studying on a three-semesters-per-year basis you will be able to graduate after just two years. You can fast-track your career and start earning a salary sooner or take a gap year and do what you want - it is up to you.

  • Bachelor of Business (Accelerated) [new in 2008]
