Course Description

The completion of the course provides graduates with a number of differing options.

  • To seek employment within the Jewellery Industry.
  • To become self employed in their own studio or through craft outlets.
  • To seek entry into the prestigious Degree of Art-Gold & Silversmithing at RMIT or the equivalent at Monash University.

Entrance Requirements

Australian Year 12 (or recognised equivalent) or relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or higher (or recognised equivalents). Mature Age. Upon application, students are required to submit a resume of their interest and experience in the jewellery industry. (A prior knowledge of technical terminology or design would be an advantage).

Course Fee

$AUD 9000 p.a.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Assessment Methods

Each module is assessed by the submission of practical exercises, written exercises, studio journal or combinations of the three.

Materials

Successful candidates will be required to purchase their own jewellery kit. The minimum requirements are discussed on the student's induction. The Jewellery Section will provide some basic materials - precious metal is not supplied by NMIT. A materials fee applies to all students and is set each year and advertised accordingly.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology (Jewellery).
