Designed to equip the student with skills, abilities and the confidence needed for further tertiary study, this introduction to early childhood education covers child development, observations and play, Tikanga Māori, communication studies and professional development. The student will also gain valuable practical experience in a range of early childhood centres. ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test. THE KEY SKILLS YOU WILL ACQUIRE The programme aims to develop capable early childhood staff who are knowledgeable and skilled in the philosophy and practices of teaching, and who have developed personal and professional qualities that demonstrate positive dispositions for the wellbeing of children, family/whānau and colleagues, especially within Pasifika contexts. This programme not only introduces you to the practical and communication skills required for teaching young children, but also develops academic and interpersonal skills.
